Contents Analysis 2
This is a contents
page from an issue of Kerrang. It keeps to the colour scheme on the front
cover of white, black and yellow and is carried out through every issue of
Kerrang, unless a special edition one, where they feature gold. The grunge style border relates to the type of music the magazine consists of, and fits in with the target audience of the magazine. At the top of the page there is a letter from the editor, which is personally signed. This makes the reader feel more involved by using a informal style letter. The editor is taking about things she has featured in the issue this week, which is a nice touch to the contents page, because readers could become more interested in reading a certain part. There are about 10
images on this contents page and most of the picture consist of men around the
ages of 25-35. The pictures along with the band name and page number are separated by black column lines which makes it easier for the readers eyes as the relaxing portrait enables them to have a quick scan. All the bands featured are the same sort of style, which appeals
to Kerrang magazines target audience. The contents shows that the magazine talks
about bands dating back to the 80's, such as Iron Maiden. All the bands
consisting of the same style and music genre, and mostly men. The fonts are kept
simple, there are 3-4 different styles of writing on the contents page, and also
usually on Kerrang front cover. The black border behind the yellow font is a consistent theme throughout. The bold headlines add to the easy to read layout of contents with block sans serif font. The list of contents and their pages is easy to read and straight forward in a column. The reader can scan the casual list and find the page they want to jump to easily. The list is separated into different sections such as up to date news, reviews, features, gigs and icons. This makes it easy for the reader to jump to what they might be interested in reading. The quote at the top right of the page by Cristina Scabbia is personal to her, and what people want to know if they like her and her band.It makes the reader feel like they are talking directly to them. It is eye catching and enticing with the page number printed below so the reader can jump to the page and read the whole article.
