Magazine Analysis 3

This is one my favourite album covers I have ever seen. It’s an exclusive issue which was only available to subscribers of Q magazine. The magazine features the thoughts, lyrics and other information about Alex Turner from the well-known band; Arctic Monkeys. The main image is a close up of the main man Alex Turner. Although he isn’t looking directing into the reader’s eyes he has a thoughtful look on his face. This relates to the articles that will be featured in the magazine. The typical Q masthead has been cleverly placed overlapping his head, it almost acts as a thought bubble and gives the impression that the entire front cover was inspired by his thoughts. There is very little printed writing on the front cover but there are handwritten lyrics in the background, which have been made to look like they have been written by Alex himself, and give a more personal touch. This is used to reflect Alex’s deep and intensive thoughts and shows that Q are so well-established, they can interview and have an entire feature magazine on one of the best musicians to this day. The small amounts of text reflect on how exclusive the issue actually is. ‘Inside Alex Turners Head’ - Q are one of the only magazines that have accessed this information and it is ‘exclusive’ to their habituated subscribers. The scribbling and uneven writing could suggest a sense of rebellion. It isn’t hand writing someone of the high class would produce, but of a middle class, mid 20’s individual.
