Target Audience
The demographic
profile of my chosen magazines target audience would look something like this.
The age of my target audience fall into a range of about 18-30 and are skilled
working class or working, manual workers. I choose to put a piece of art work by
Andy Warhol on my demographic profile to show the intelligence and education of
my audience. The music I have included on the board is The Libertines and Arctic
Monkeys. Not only are these two of my favourite bands, they are also popular
within magazines such as NME, both bands have had special edition issues only
featuring themselves and they are a favourite for individuals of my target age
range. I’ve included Marlboro Cigarettes because they are one of the most
expensive brands of cigarettes to smoke, they are also known as ‘The Indie Cig’
in our generation and NME Magazine covers indie/electro-rock and the vodka
represents the student life a lot of us lead and the ‘drinking the highest
percentage of alcohol just to get wasted’ frame of mind. Topshop and H&M are
where all the latest fashion and branded clothing is sold. Readers of my magazine would shop
here for the latest trends. I used a picture of some XXL Live blonde hair dye
as well because us teenagers are always dying are hair crazy colours, male and
female. We do this to keep up with the latest fashions or to possible imitate a
rock star we really like, for example Miss Hayley Williams, voted one of the
sexiest woman of our generation. I spent a lot of time looking at existing
publications and their readership profiles before conducting my own audience
research. This involved qualitative data such as interviews and
quantitative data such as surveys. I kept doing research throughout the design
process which involved asking for feedback on layout, fonts, colours, story ideas, content
ideas. I could not have produced a magazine to target a clear audience without
this constant checking to make sure that I was actually appealing to a specific
audience. The mood board shows a summary of the demographic profile and the
lifestyle choices of the audience I planned to target.
